The classic combo: real Cascades hiking by day, a lazy tube float down the Deschutes by afternoon, and 30+ breweries by night. Fly into Redmond (RDM), it's about 20 minutes to town. This one's the crowd-pleaser — good for a mixed-fitness group.

Flagstaff itself sits at 7,000 ft in the pines, but the real draw is what's an hour away in every direction: Sedona's red rocks for hiking, and the Verde River south of town for a kayak float and wine stop. Fly into Phoenix (PHX) for way more flight options, then it's a 2.5 hr drive up — or fly directly into tiny Flagstaff Pulliam (FLG) if the group's small.

- Cooler mountain air, good break from desert heat

- No river float right in town, it's all a drive away

Whitewater rafting the Animas by day, legendary San Juan Mountains singletrack for the mountain bikers in the crew, and a laid-back brewery scene by night. Fly into Durango-La Plata County (DRO), about 15 minutes to downtown. Best pick for a group that actually wants to get after it outdoors.

- Highest altitude of the three, expect to feel it

The first person I met in college. I remember getting out of my car to get my dorm keys, and along walks Albert, who had moved in a couple of days prior — he met me before I could even open the back. When I walked up to my dorm, I learned me and Albert were neighbors. Albert has remained a key part of my life for many years and regularly gets visits from me in his cool SF bachelor pad.

The first time I met Andre he told me straight up that he could cook me in Fortnite. I still think this is true today — he can also beat me up, but he knows all things fitness.
Charlie

You know how they say surround yourself with people smarter than you? Charlie is the epitome of that quote. Charlie and I met through high school cross country and have remained in touch ever since. Through his long moves across the country to running my first half marathon with him, I have shared many literal hills and valleys with Charlie. At the time of writing this he is training for a marathon and I am training to fix my bum knee — let's see where I stand next year!

Me and Daniel met through our shared dorm room on Cereus 4. Many nights I would come over and watch Daniel beat me at Super Smash Bros. for the tenth time, vowing I would someday beat his Luigi. Maybe this trip we can set the record straight 😤. Through the 4+ years I lived with Daniel he helped me keep my bearings straight, and I can't wait for him to join me on my wedding day.
Isaiah

Isaiah and I met through high school cross country. The type of guy you go to when you are in your feels and need a good playlist for it. "Isaiah is faster than me" is an accurate statement, and one that 16-year-old Spencer would be ashamed to admit. I admire Isaiah's ability to show up for others when they need him, and his drip — ask him about his Rolex.

I am not sure I have met someone more technically competent than Jonah. Roommate to Daniel (see above) freshman year, I immediately clicked with Jonah. His love of bikes inspired my love of bikes, and to this day his music interest has led me down many wonderful paths and good song discovery. Look for this guy to recommend the best new artist!

Everyone knows his name. Now you get to meet him for real. A man I would feel very comfortable putting as my backup emergency contact, Matthew is one of my most loyal friends.
