The classic combo: real Cascades hiking by day, a lazy tube float down the Deschutes by afternoon, and 30+ breweries by night. Fly into Redmond (RDM), it's about 20 minutes to town. This one's the crowd-pleaser — good for a mixed-fitness group.

- Easy river float, no experience needed
- Smith Rock is a legit, dramatic hike
- Best brewery scene of the three, by far

- Float gets crowded on hot weekends
- Least "off-grid," most touristy option
- Smith Rock is a 30 min drive from town

Flagstaff itself sits at 7,000 ft in the pines, but the real draw is what's an hour away in every direction: Sedona's red rocks for hiking, and the Verde River south of town for a kayak float and wine stop. Fly into Phoenix (PHX) for way more flight options, then it's a 2.5 hr drive up — or fly directly into tiny Flagstaff Pulliam (FLG) if the group's small.
Pros
- Sedona's red rock hikes are unreal, unlike anything else on the list
- Verde River kayak + vineyard stop is a genuinely fun day
- Cooler mountain air, good break from desert heat
Cons
- No river float right in town, it's all a drive away
- Most spread-out itinerary of the three
- FLG airport is tiny, PHX means a longer drive

- Legendary mountain biking, this town basically invented the sport
- Animas River rafting is a real rush, Class III rapids
- Historic downtown + laid-back brewery scene
Cons
- Highest altitude of the three, expect to feel it
- Smaller airport, flights are pricier and less direct
- Less lounging, more "get after it" energy
